Why Linux flier snapshot

A little more work has been done on the flier, and I wanted to share that with everyone and once again put out a general call for help on some of the work that remains.

Known bugs:

  • Way too wordy
  • No images yet (and no room for them, this thing needs a hatchet job bad), but I have some ideas
  • In particular, “Where does it come from?” cut in at least half so I have room for…
  • …a “How can I contribute?” section to talk about art and documentation and non-code stuff people can do
  • “Aren’t there like a thousand different kinds of Linux?” sux0rz and needs a total rewrite

When I was talking about this before, I said I didn’t want to mention Guerrilla Tech Support in this flier, as I’m doing it just as much for public distribution and use as I am for my own marketing. You will notice that in this version, I have included the “About Guerrilla Tech” pane from the Vista flier. I thought doing that struck a good balance between my needs and everyone’s needs. This way, if you, Esteemed Reader, want to use this for your LUG or their LoCo group (or your business!), all you need to do is replace my info with yours, and it’s all on the back pane, so you don’t have to rewrite anything else.[1]

You might need the development version of Scribus to read the sourcefile. If you’re using Ubuntu, it’s scribus-ng in the repository. Also included a PDF version this time.

That reminds of something, so I’m gonna digress a little bit here. I was discussing this flier with someone, and was posed the question “How does doing this benefit Guerrilla Tech?” And that is a thought I would like to elaborate on here, because although altruism is indeed one of my motivations in this, it’s not all of it. I am doing this because I expect it to help me make money, and I’m pro-making money. One thing I’ve learned in the last year of doing this is that if you are someone who “sells Linux” to the masses, be that in the form of preloaded machines or service or as a “cure for Windows” or what have you, you really have to make the sale twice. You have to sell yourself and your services, and you also have to sell this thing that a lot of people have never heard of, and those that have heard of it are sometimes harder, because they’re basing their opinions on 2002’s FUD-file. So, Lizz, I hope this answers your question.
